Mansfield Town 2-1 Barnsley
This wretched season hit a new low as Barnsley lost to the side with the current longest winless run in the Football League – enduring a third successive league defeat and fifth in eight games whilst ending Mansfield’s 13 match winless streak which had included nine defeats. This is the second time this season the Reds have had two separate runs of three successive league defeats, the first time this has occurred at this level since their first third tier season for 21 years in 2002-2003.

Barnsley 0-3 Blackpool
Barnsley’s season is now all but over after another Oakwell horror show left the Reds eight points adrift of the play-offs following an seventh loss in 11 league games. This was also their seventh home league loss of the season (two more than they have won) only five sides have lost more on their own turf and four of those teams occupy the bottom five places in the division. They have now lost as many home games in 2024-2025 as they did in the whole of 2023-2024 with five home games still to come.
Upskilling teachers to use generative artificial intelligence: The TPTP approach for sustainable teacher support and development
Abstract There is a growing need to upskill higher education (HE) teachers for the effective and responsible integration of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in their classrooms. This case study sought to address this growing need by designing and delivering a training course for educators, focusing on the use of ChatGPT as it was the most commonly used tool at the time.
Rotherham United 0-1 Barnsley
Barnsley kept their slim play-off hopes alive as they cut the gap to seven points by ending a six match winless run in the South Yorkshire derby on what was the club’s 5,000th Football League game. This 1,791st victory (and 555th away from Oakwell) was secured by a second half penalty from Adam Phillips, the first time a spot-kick has been the decisive goal in a Barnsley win since January 2024 when Herbie Kane’s penalty secured a 2-1 home win over Carlisle.

Stockport County 2-1 Barnsley
Barnsley slipped four points off the play-offs as their winless run stretched to five matches – their joint longest winless league run of the season with Darrell Clarke becoming the first Barnsley manager to endure such a run twice in the same third tier season since Paul Hart 20 years ago. It was their 11th league defeat of the season, the joint most amongst the division’s top 13 teams along with Bolton.
Barnsley 4-3 Lincoln City
What a difference a week makes - at 12:30pm last Saturday Barnsley sat in 10th place in League One and seemingly out of promotion with the gap to sixth 10 points. Fast forward to 5pm this Saturday and nine points from nine later the Reds still sit in 10th place but are now just four points off the top six and would have been only two if Charlton had not scored an injury time winner at Leyton Orient.
Barnsley 0-0 Burton Albion
Starting with the positives Barnsley did manage to secure only their fifth clean sheet in 29 League One matches this season but failed to score for only the seventh time (two of which have come in the last three matches) and have now followed four straight wins with a four game winless run (D1 L3) This was Barnsley’s first league goal-less draw of 2024-2025 and indeed first blank in 37 league matches since 16th March 2024 against Cheltenham.
Barnsley 0-1 Stevenage
Early 2025 optimism is quickly waning as Barnsley have now followed four successive victories from the end of 2024 into the start of 2025 with back to back league defeats for the second time this season. This defeat saw them concede in injury time to lose a game for the second time this season (also another 1-0 defeat, at Wrexham in December) and the first time it has occurred at Oakwell since September 2015 when Shrewsbury won 2-1.
Barnsley 0-0 Bristol Rovers
Barnsley exited the FA Cup at the second round stage for the first time in 45 years with an agonising penalty shootout defeat following dominating for over two hours. It is their first second round exit since the 1979-1980 season when they lost 1-0 to Chester. It is Barnsley's first FA Cup 0-0 in seven years since a third round tie at Blackpool in 2016-2017 - they would lose the subsequent reply 2-1.
Cambridge United 1-1 Barnsley
Footymad Barnsley drew an away league game for the first time in 16 such matches, gaining a hard fought point against a Cambridge United side who despite residing in the relegation zone had won three of their previous four league games including the last two at home.
Shrewsbury Town 0-2 Barnsley
Barnsley’s impressive away record rolls on as despite winning only one of their opening six league games at Oakwell, this victory at Shrewsbury was their fifth on the road from seven which gives them the best away record in League One currently. It is the second successive season the Reds have won five of their opening seven away league games and they actually had a better record 12 months ago having drawn the other two whereas in 2024-2025 they have lost them.
Blackpool 1-2 Barnsley
Barnsley ended a run of three league games without a victory as they kept their strong away start up to move within four goals of the play-off places. The Reds have the joint best away record in the division (alongside league leaders Birmingham) with this their fourth victory from six on the road in 2024-2025.
Burton Albion 1-2 Barnsley
Barnsley scored their first last minute winner since February as they continued their solid start to the season to keep pace with the division’s top two. This was the first time Barnsley have won a game after 90minutes or later since the 10th February when Adam Phillips scored a late brace after 88 and 95 to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win over Leyton Orient. It is Barnsley’s first last minute winner on the road since the 1st October 2022 when Jack Aitchison won it at the death at Fleetwood.
Stevenage 3-0 Barnsley
Barnsley’s unbeaten away start came to an abrupt end as they suffered their heaviest defeat so far in 2024-2025. Five of Barnsley’s last six defeats in all competitions have seen them concede three goals, three of which have come away from home.

Barnsley have now made their best start to a league season since the promotion campaign of 2018-2019 after winning three of their first five matches (they won three of the first four in 18/19) This is however the first season Barnsley have lost their opening game of a season but then gone unbeaten in the next four since 2014-2015 when they followed an opening day defeat against Crawley with victories over Crewe and Gillingham and draws with Coventry and Yeovil.

Barnsley 2-2 Northampton Town
The wretched home run continues as Barnsley threw away a 2-0 lead at Oakwell for the second time in a week and have now failed to win any of their last 10 home games in all competitions.
Lincoln City 1-2 Barnsley
Barnsley got 2024-2025 up and running with an impressive victory in their first away League One game of the season. It is the first time Barnsley have won their opening away league game of a season since 2018-2019 when they won both their opening home and away game. That was also the last season Barnsley scored twice in their opening away league game. It is only the second time in 10 years the Reds have won their opening away league game, also doing so in 2014-2015.
Barnsley 1-2 Mansfield Town
Barnsley brought their poor end of 2023-2024 form into 2024-2025 as they lost their first home league game of a season for the first time since 2020-2021. The Reds had won each of their three previous home league games of a season, all without conceding a goal. In all competitions this defeat ended a run of seven successive victories in opening home games of a season, the previous six of which had all come accompanied with clean sheets.

Barnsley 1-1 Northampton Town
Barnsley managed to scrape into the end of season play-off lottery after a last gasp Northampton goal robbed the Reds of two points but defeats for Lincoln and Blackpool ensured Barnsley will contest a playoff campaign in successive seasons for the first time ever. Oxford’s final day victory to jump from seventh to fifth means Barnsley will finish sixth – their lowest position in the table since the 15th January and will face Bolton in the semi-finals for the second year in a row.
Barnsley 2-2 Reading
Barnsley’s hopes of automatic promotion were mathematically extinguished this weekend and they remain looking over their shoulders in the fight to retain their place in the play-offs following a third league game without a win and a run of one win in six which leaves them precariously only five points clear of seventh although the current incumbents in that position (Blackpool) have only six points left to play for – three of which are against Barnsley! A three league game winless run is...
Charlton Athletic 2-1 Barnsley
Barnsley’s club record unbeaten away run finally came to an end in the capital, prior to this they had gone 11 away games unbeaten in the same season for the first time ever and had lost just once on the road in the league all season.
Barnsley 0-2 Cambridge United
Barnsley’s home struggles continued as they failed to score at Oakwell for the second successive game and have now won only one of their last four matches home or away to virtually end any hopes of automatic promotion.

Barnsley 0-0 Cheltenham Town
Barnsley’s hopes of a top two finish took a major hit as they failed to win at Oakwell for the third successive game to slip seven points behind the automatic promotion places. This was Barnsley’s 11th league draw of the season, only three teams – Charlton (15) and Lincoln and Fleetwood (both 13) have had more stalemates in League One this season and it is four more than they had in 2022-2023.
Barnsley 1-5 Lincoln City
Barnsley came crashing back down to earth with their biggest ever third tier home defeat It is their biggest home league defeat at any level for 11 years since a 5-1 reverse to Watford in the Championship in September 2013. It is their biggest defeat home or away in five years since a 5-1 Championship defeat at Preston in October 2019. And their biggest League One defeat home or away for nine years since a 5-1 defeat at Crawley in February 2015.
Wycombe Wanderers 2-4 Barnsley
Barnsley remain hot on the coat-tails of the top two (with third placed Bolton coming to Oakwell on Tuesday) as they came from 1-0 down AGAIN to win for the third successive game and fourth in the last five. Prior to this season Barnsley had gone 97 league games without managing to win after conceding the first goal, but this was the SIXTH occasion it has happened in 2023-2024.
Barnsley 2-1 Derby County
Barnsley smashed the automatic promotion race wide open with yet another come-from-behind win against second placed Derby, which coupled with Bolton’s 4-1 defeat at Blackpool brought the Reds to within three points of the top two with a game in hand. It is the second successive home game in which Barnsley have fallen 1-0 down before an Adam Phillips brace has seen them win 2-1 whilst each of their last three Oakwell victories have come after conceding the first goal and have all finished 2-1.
Barnsley 1-2 Huddersfield Town
The gap to the League One top six increased to its biggest gap for exactly nine years after another harrowing home reverse saw Barnsley fall seven points behind the promotion pack – it’s the biggest gap when Barnsley have been in this division since mid February 2016 when it was 8 points and the Reds resided in 12th position.
Fleetwood Town 1-2 Barnsley
Barnsley’s incredible away run continues as victory at relegation threatened Fleetwood (a club that has never beaten the Reds on their own patch) extended their record to just one defeat on the road from 16 league games in 2023-2024 and just one defeat from 20 stretching back to April 2023 (excluding Wembley - W10 D9) Nobody in the top four tiers of English football have lost as little as one away with Liverpool and Leicester the next best with two.
Bolton Wanderers 1-1 Barnsley
Barnsley fought their way to a hard earned draw against fellow promotion contenders Bolton by extending their record-breaking away run. The Reds have never before been this far into a season with just a solitary league defeat on the road and nobody else in the top four divisions has as little as one defeat on the road at this stage. However they don’t currently have the best away record in League One with their total of 27 points bettered by Portsmouth and Derby who both have 32.

Barnsley saw their 11 match unbeaten league run come to an end as they lost at home to Exeter for the second successive season to suffer their first reverse of 2024. ' petertodd'’s last stand: The final days of open GPT-3 research — LessWrong
I did some spelling evals with GPT2-xl and -small last year, discovered that they're pretty terrible at spelling! Even with multishot prompting and supplying the first letter, the output seems to be heavily conditioned on that first letter, sometimes affected by the specifics of the prompt, and reminiscent of very crude bigrammatic or trigrammatic spelling algorithms.

Port Vale 2-3 Barnsley
Barnsley scored three times away from home on Boxing Day for the first time in 22 years as they survived a second half fight-back to win at Port Vale for the second successive season. The Reds are now unbeaten in their last seven Boxing Day matches (W3 D4) since a 1-0 defeat at Preston in 2014 (they did not play in 2015 and 2021) And indeed in those seven undefeated fixtures Barnsley have alternated between a draw and a win each year.
