OREGON - As fire season intensifies, the Oregon Department of Forestry is relying on seasonal firefighters to supplement its full-time staff and protect communities across the state. Madi Layton, a 417 swamper, explained about her role on the fire line. "I'm in charge of helping map to the destination, helping him unload the dozer here, and once the dozer is unloaded, just helping him with any, you know, anything that might come up," Layton said.
