Introduction Interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) are a group of nonmalignant lung parenchymal disorders encompassing a range of clinical phenotypes with varying degrees of fibrosis and/or inflammation. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the most common subtype, characterised by increased collagen deposition, lung architectural destruction and breathlessness, with a median survival of ∼3 years if untreated [1]. Over a third of other fibrosing ILDs when progressive have a similar prognosis [2].
