Robert Waite’s Biography

Bob Waite began his writing career in 1970 with the Ipswich Chronicle and other North Shore Weeklies newspapers as summer reporter and editor. During that time he won three New England Press Association Best Column awards. He subsequently worked for Pacific News Service (PNS), covering politics from San Francisco, and as PNS' Eastern European Correspondent, based in Warsaw, Poland. He later served as press secretary to Senators Edward W. Brooke (R-MA) and Robert J. Dole (R-KS).

Following his government stint, Bob moved to the corporate sector and led communications, marketing, and government relations functions at IBM, Ford, CAE, Inc., CIBC, and Canada Post. He is currently a professor at Seneca College in Toronto, and Managing Director, Waite + Co., a communications strategy firm.

Bob returned to his journalistic roots in 2020 as a columnist for Ipswich Local News. In addition, he writes frequently on travel and his work has been published in the Boston Globe, Washington Post, San Francisco Examiner, Toronto Star, Globe & Mail, among others. He also writes frequently for a baby boomer-oriented travel site managed by Clark Norton, one of his former PNS editors.

Since returning to column writing he has won two additional Best Column Awards (2023 & 2024).

"Ipswich On My Mind" and "Ipswich Out Of My Mind", published by Marlborough Press, are regional best-seller. "In and Out of Ipswich", featuring his travel writing, is scheduled to launch in 2026. He splits his time between Toronto, Ottawa, and Ipswich, MA.
