Small Company Audit Exemption: This is no ease of doing business

The good news is that the Government is working to make life easy for businesses. The bad news is that, in its quest for ‘ease of doing business’, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has moved a proposal to exempt companies with a turnover of up to Rs 1 crore from mandatory statutory audit. Why is the ‘easing practise’ not good news? A “Company” is an artificial legal entity separate from its owners. The company’s liabilities are ‘limited’ to its ability to pay.
