The Interview: US tourism envoy Nick Adams

America’s first de-facto tourism minister has insisted the country is ready to reverse a downward trend in international visitors this year and is confident the destination can reach an average 100 million visitors a year by 2030. Ambassador Nick Adams, who was appointed special presidential envoy for American tourism, exceptionalism and values in March, also said the reality of visiting the US was not reflective of media coverage which he said was driven by politically motivated “narratives”.

US destination marketing organisation Brand USA has created a guide for visitors to “address misperceptions head-on” and remove barriers to travel. The ‘Get Facts. Get Going.’ guide will feature online at visittheusa.com/entry and will address topics including visas, Esta and social media, entry processes and national park fees. The guide has been designed to combat misperceptions and “outdated or incomplete information” which have “created confusion among some international travellers”.

Simon Garrido joins Typically Holidays as business development director

Former Specialist Holidays Group sales director Simon Garrido has joined Italian specialist Typically Holidays as business development director. Garrido, who has more than three decades of trade experience and whose previous role covered brands including Citalia, will support Typically’s new Luxury Collection in addition to its core product range. Typically Holidays was founded in 1984 and sells through 2,000 trade partners. It specialises in trips to Italy, Spain and Portugal.
