What images keep you company in the space where you work? Very little, apart from a photograph of my son aged six, standing by a car from the 1950s: a Bristol 405. What was the first piece of art that really mattered to you? Benjamin Britten’s Spring Symphony (1949) and Alexander Rodchenko’s Construction No. 126 (1920). If you could live with only one piece of art, what would it be? The Piano Lesson (1916) by Henri Matisse. It’s near perfect. What is your favourite title of an artwork?

Since the advent of supporting matrices for biological applications, many types of drugs have been administered via various forms of conventional drug delivery preparations, such as pills, solutions, creams, suppositories, injected gels and so on. Key parameters to all these systems for effective drug delivery are controlled release for sustained periods, targeted delivery, and enhancements of drug stability and efficacy, all of which can be manipulated by using polymers.

Abstract The use of self-consistent terminology to describe polymerizations is important for litigation, patents, research and education. Imprecision in these areas can be both costly and confusing. To address this situation the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) has made recommendations, which are summarized below.
