Cognitive Distortions and Logical Fallacies
By: Rohit Kapur Plato said, “We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.” Basically, a child’s fear of the dark is essentially innocent and understandable. However, it is far more disheartening when adults refuse to acknowledge the truth or are afraid to confront it.
The Power of Contagion
By: Rohit Kapur Maurice Maeterlinck once said, “Remember that happiness is as contagious as gloom. It should be the first duty of those who are happy to let others know of their gladness.” In relation to the power of contagion, my main focus will be on the phenomenon called emotional contagion or this idea that moods and feelings can be unconsciously shared, as well as the spread of behaviors and even physical symptoms. This is emotional contagion.
Family to me
With each passing moment, our familial bond seems to grow stronger, regardless of the time that elapses. We’re a close-knit group, both immediate and extended, connected by more than just blood. There’s a profound sense of loyalty, comfort, and love that permeates our relationships, even in the absence of spoken words. Through challenges, particularly illness and adversity, they’ve consistently been there for me, without question.
Compartmentalized Love
Rohit Kapur @roflections · Follow 2 min read · -- Noémi Privé wrote, “She was a whole, always. Not one of those who manage to compartmentalize the different aspects of her life to face them separately. She was a whole and it was against that wholeness she had to fight every day to survive.” Unlike people who can compartmentalize or keep different parts of their lives separate to handle challenges more easily.
In the Face of Uncertainty
Rohit Kapur @roflections · Follow 3 min read · -- Richard P. Feynman once said, “It is in the admission of ignorance and the admission of uncertainty that there is a hope for the continuous motion of human beings in some direction that doesn’t get confined, permanently blocked, as it has so many times before in various periods in the history of man”. In my life, uncertainty has been a given. As for anybody dealing with a physical condition in which reliance on others grow.
The Power of Comparison
By: Rohit Kapur Rohit Kapur @roflections · Follow 3 min read · -- Betty Jamie Chung once said, “Comparison with myself brings improvement, comparison with others brings discontent.” In our development we are constantly warned about the negatives comparison brings to our emotional being.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Rohit Kapur @roflections · Follow 2 min read · -- A couple of key lessons that come to mind. Living in a world not set up for you keeps you humble and innovative. It allows you to bring out of the box solutions to different situations. Time is the only limiting commodity that matters and though my time may be shorter, everyone will experience getting closer to the finish line. So for those who are dealing with adversity, I urge you not to give up on yourself.
Personality Development of the Physically Impaired by Rohit Kapur
Rohit Kapur @roflections · Follow 5 min read · -- Erik Erickson once said, “There is in every child at every stage a new miracle of vigorous unfolding, which constitutes a new hope and a new responsibility for all”. Erickson maintained this idea that personality develops in a predetermined order through eight stages of psychosocial development, from infancy to adulthood. I believe this predetermined order for development of personality to be true for so called “normal” or “healthy” children.
Groupthink and Social norms
Andrew Lansley once said, "Peer pressure and social norms are powerful influences on behavior, and they are classic excuses". Before I delve deeper into the threats group think and social norms pose, let's define them. Groupthink is the practice of thinking or making decisions as a group and social norms are the unwritten rules of behavior that are considered acceptable in a group or society.
Fear and Love
"To try is to risk failure. But risk must be taken because the greatest hazard of life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn, feel, change, grow, live, and love," said Leo Buscaglia. A couple that come to mind include setting goals, positive reinforcement or validation, accountability, a sense of purpose and lastly learning from our failings.
Grief and Love
Rumi wrote, "Grief can be the garden of compassion. If you keep your heart open through everything, your pain can become your greatest ally in your life's search for love and wisdom." Grief and I have always had an interesting relationship in the sense that not only have I lost and been grieving friends to muscular dystrophy and family to natural causes but also constantly grieving the loss of my body function.
The power of guilt and shame
Brene Brown writes, “Guilt is just as powerful, but its influence is positive, while shame’s is destructive. Shame erodes our courage and fuels disengagement”. Oftentimes guilt and shame are used interchangeably but I believe guilt that we let fester turns to shame. Shame can often be debilitating and result in us over promising. Another way to put this, our words don’t meet our actions. This is not only detrimental to us as people but often puts strain on the relationships between us and others.
Legacy and Affirmations
The emotional mark we leave with the people around us tells us a lot about the lifestyle we lived. Often times we live by legacy affirmations or guiding principles to live by. The best way to think about this is it we take certain steps to reach specific outcomes. When we think about legacies, we think about the people who are left behind. In the process of developing a legacy, helps us develop a sense of purpose or a need to belong, which intrinsically is what we as people are thriving for. 1.
Accepting our mortality
“The curse of mortality. You spend the first portion of your life learning, growing stronger, more capable. And then, through no fault of your own, your body begins to fail. You regress. Strong limbs become feeble, keen senses grow dull, hardy constitutions deteriorate. Beauty withers. Organs quit. You remember yourself in your prime, and wonder where that person went. As your wisdom and experience are peaking, your traitorous body becomes a prison said,”Brandon Mull.
Letting go vs. harboring
“Let things go. Release them. Detach yourself from them. Stop turning on your emotional television to watch the same program over and over again, the one that shows how much you suffered from a certain loss: that is only poisoning you, nothing else,” said Paulo Coelho. When we are young, we believe harboring and holding on to relationships will increase our popularity and in turn increase our happiness.

Scan Compression Is No Longer About Compression
Scan compression is a critical technology used in nearly every design, but it doesn’t come without costs. Scan compression was introduced in the year 2000 and has seen rapid adoption. Nearly every design’s test methodology today implements this technology, which inserts compression logic in the scan path between the scan I/Os and the internal chains. In this article, we take a critical look at the technology to understand how scan compression has matured.
A Budget Wish List: What the govt should do to help general and business aviation sector fly high
It’s June 2019, and we have a new government which means business, and is all set to make a correction for the growth of the economy. The mandate for the government is overwhelming, and there is a golden chance for it to take bold steps to spur the growth of one of the most neglected, but a very vital industry in the country, that is, the general and business aviation (G&BA) industry.
IC Test: Doing It At The Right Place At The Right Time
In the real world, we are slaves to our environment. The decisions we make are dependent on the resources available at any given time. In school, I remember coming up with a binary decision diagram (BDD) variable-ordering algorithm that relied on partial BDDs. Was that the best algorithm to determine the variable ordering of a BDD for a design? Probably not. However, it was easy to do as a colleague was doing research on partial BDDs, and I had the software available that he had written.

How to Read India’s 2019 Interim Budget
Op/Ed By Rohit Kapur Conventionally, 2019 being an election year in India, the Modi government was expected to present an interim budget, which, essentially is a vote on account, whereby the parliament sanctions funds for the government to function in an uninterrupted manner till the new government is voted in and takes charge. The new government then, based on its stated election manifesto and the availability of resources, tables a full-fledged budget in the parliament.
