Chicago White Sox Tap Young Cancer Survivor to Design Promo T-shirt
The Chicago White Sox had hoped to be a contender in the American League’s Central Division this season, but the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians have hogged the headlines, leaving the Illinois club to ponder next year’s campaign. Before they reflect on their athletic prowess, however, the team can take pride in its altruistic progress thanks to the Kopech’s Big Kut sweepstakes that chose a nine-year-old diehard fan and cancer survivor to design its promo T-shirt.

Baez hit .318 (7 for 22) with five RBIs, leading the Cubs past the Dodgers for their first NL pennant since 1945. Gonzalez Staying Strong, not Hanging On - The San Fernando Valley Sun: Sports
Gonzalez, now 32, is still revered by those who know him in San Fernando, where he went to high school. And not just because he purchased a new baseball scoreboard back in February for Pioneer Park here where he played Little League baseball as a kid — without actively seeking publicity or expecting anything in return besides “thanks” from a grateful community.
González se Mantiene Fuerte - The San Fernando Valley Sun: El Sol
MLB: Hamels dominant, Rangers end 4-game slide by topping Cubs - Your Houston News: Sports

This is now the go time.” Hamels (10-2) struck out his first six batters. He fanned seven overall and gave up just an unearned run on four hits. “The fastball, the cutter allowed him to get to the changeup today, and he was really exceptional,” Rangers manager Jeff Banister said.

MLB: Fielder homers, Rangers top Astros; Correa hurt - Your Houston News: Sports
Fielder homered for the first time since his brief benching, Moreland had a pair of doubles and the Rangers beat Houston 5-3 on Thursday in a game that Astros shortstop Carlos Correa exited with a sprained left ankle. “The swings look a little bit closer, a little fresher,” said Texas manager Jeff Banister, who nodded ever so slightly while watching Fielder return to the dugout after his fourth-inning liner inside the foul pole in right. “These guys are good hitters.
MLB: Andrus, Ramos lead Rangers over Astros 2-1 - Your Houston News: Sports
Ramos (1-2) yielded two hits and one run while fanning four in six innings for his first win this year in his third start and fifth appearance. Sam Dyson pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save and second in two games. Marwin Gonzalez solo homer in the third was Houston’s only run. MLB: Beltre makes up for rare error, Rangers beat White Sox 6-5 - Your Houston News: Sports
White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier got his 10th RBI in the three-game series with his homer leading off the fourth. But he left the game in the bottom of that inning when he cut his lower lip and needed five stitches after falling hard face-first into the first row of seats while going after a foul popup. Tony Barnette (2-2) got the final out in the sixth after taking over for starter Cole Hamels before Tom Wilhelmsen, Jake Diekman and Sam Dyson each worked an inning.

Arrieta also no-hit the Dodgers 2-0 last Aug. 30, part of one of the best pitching stretches in club history. The Reds hadn’t been held hitless in a regular-season game since 1971, when Rick Wise did it for Philadelphia at Riverfront Stadium.
Yoenis Cespedes' return to New York Mets validates Terry Collins
When the New York Mets acquired Yoenis Cespedes last year at the July 31 trade deadline, it appeared a textbook rental situation.Mets officials indicated no real interest in retaining Cespedes beyond the 2015 season. More importantly, the Mets -- by rule -- were prohibited from re-signing the outfielder unless the extension was agreed upon during the season.

Jeremy Affeldt one of best in postseason history
0 SharesPrintCommentHere's one of those quirky and amazing lists that only a sport like baseball can provide. The all-time leaders in postseason ERA, with a minimum of 30 innings pitched, are Mariano Rivera (0.70), Harry Brecheen (0.83), Jeremy Affeldt (0.86) and Babe Ruth (0.87).Yes, that's right, the nondescript, left-handed middle reliever Affeldt, who just announced his retirement on Thursday, is sandwiched on an all-time list between two of the game's greatest legends, Rivera and Ruth.
Evaluating Bud Selig's Hall of Fame candidacy
On Sunday, Bud Selig's 22-year run as Major League Baseball commissioner officially came to an end. Barring a change in the voting process, he's likely to be elected to the Hall of Fame by the Expansion Era Committee during its next go-round in December 2016, for July 2017 induction. Perhaps it shouldn't be so easy. Selig has exited the game at a high point, with industry revenue topping $9 billion in 2014, up 13 percent from a year ago, and up 321 percent from 1995.
