Abstract Although suspected to alter child development, exposure to glycol ethers (GEs) is widespread in the general population and remains insufficiently characterised, especially given their short half-lives. We investigated the variability of urinary concentrations of GE metabolites in pregnant women using different sampling methods. Thirty pregnant women were enroled by medical professional around Rennes, France.

Introduction In Europe, the burden of chronic conditions on the healthcare systems is enormous and will continue to grow. For instance, in 2022, the percentage of ≥65-year-old people with two chronic conditions was higher than 30% (OECD and European Union, 2022; Hacker, Reference Hacker2024). The healthcare systems are inadequately and insufficiently prepared to manage such burden (Holman Reference Holman2020; Kabir et al., Reference Kabir, Karim, Islam, Romero and Billah2022).
