Did an AI chatbot push Thorold Council to leave the Climate Protection Program?
This story was originally published by Canada’s National Observer and is republished here with permission. One morning in October of 2024, Fredericton city councillor Margo Sheppard received an email with the subject line: “The Real Policy Crisis: Prioritizing ‘Nature’ Over People.” It was polished — almost algorithmically smooth — and it calmly urged her to reconsider Fredericton’s net-zero policies.

Suzuki Ignis
Rory White June 18, 2024 at 6:12 AM·5 min read Suzuki Ignis It seems just about every manufacturer is throwing its hat into the small SUV ring at the moment, but with the Suzuki Ignis, Suzuki proves again few others are more experienced at engineering and building them. This time around, though, it's taken the 'small' part to the extreme with its all-new Ignis. At just 3.7 metres long, 1.69m wide and 1.6m tall, the Ignis is a rival for city cars such as the Fiat 500 and Vauxhall Adam on size.
Mercedes V-Class
The Mercedes V-Class MPV was crafted by thoroughly reworking the company's ageing Viano, which was starting to look a little long in the tooth alongside the newer Ford Tourneo Connect and Volkswagen T6 Volkswagen Caravelle, not to mention the left-wing choice - the Hyundai i800.

March 2022 - Alliance magazine
Against a backdrop of existing social and economic inequalities, the global Covid pandemic has exacerbated mental health problems for the most vulnerable. Globally, those suffering from the impact of war, extreme poverty, famine and climate change are those who suffer most acutely, both materially and psychologically. As with so many other issues, it is therefore the most vulnerable people and communities who should be at the forefront of philanthropy’s response.

Accounting for mental health research funding: developing a quantitative baseline of global investments

To date, quantitative analyses of research funding in mental health have been restricted in scope. In this Health Policy paper, we present a comprehensive analysis of grant funding for mental health research as a starting point for discussion among stakeholders globally.
Breathmark: a unique and immersive experience
Breathmark is a sonic art piece born out of curiosity, tradition and technology. The oldest records indicate that the performance of poetry in Gaelic Ireland was normally accompanied by music, providing a point of continuity with past tradition while bolstering a sense of community in the present.

Used BMW | Life with a £700 7 Series
K78 HHJ appeared on a Sunday morning and I made the journey across to east London the very same day. Upon arrival, there was more rust than the advert had let on, but after a quick test drive, I'd decided I wanted it. Despite it being rough-round-the-edges cosmetically, it was brilliantly tight to drive, and a quick look through the mountain of receipts and impressive service history showed it had been well looked after mechanically. The MOT history suggested the rust was surface stuff, too.
Used Cadillac | Life with a Seville: the end of the road
What I was more interested in was how the tyres upped comfort and refinement, and in both regards there’s improvement. Secondary ride quality is slightly better in town for starters, but more prominent is the reduced tyre roar, especially on my 60-70mph ‘blast’ down the A3. All told, I’m extremely happy with them: they look the part and have genuinely improved the drive.
Used Mercedes | Life with a 190E - the final part
There was something just right about the way the 190E departed. You see, it lead a varied life, starting it back in 1992 traversing Scottish glens, only to be sold down south to spend some time by the sea in Bournemouth. And, after a short time experiencing the hustle and bustle of the Big Smoke with me, it's back off to Aberdeen, and in good hands.
Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 d 4Matic AMG Line Auto 2017 review | Autocar
With no changes in the GLA's dimensions, interior space continues to fall short of rivals', too. Both the Q3 and X1 provide more knee room for adults in the rear seats, and the GLA doesn't feature any clever sliding or reclining rear seats. Its on-paper boot space is much stronger, even if there's a pronounced loading lip to heave heavy bags over and a relatively narrow opening to negotiate. Should I buy one? If you must buy a GLA, then the 200 d is the model that makes the most sense.
2016 Audi A5 3.0 TDI 218 S line quattro review
What is it? A quick recap of what's new about Audi's latest A5 Coupé, a car that needs to build on the previous model's steadily strong sales, which continued right until its death. Firstly, the A5 is now a lighter car than before, by some 60kg, its bigger dimensions mean more cabin space, and behind its seating for five lies a larger boot. This A5 also sits on the latest evolution of Audi's MLB chassis architecture, so we can reasonably expect it to ride and handle more competently, too.
2016 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 UK review
What's it like? To return briefly to where we started, even in AMG guise the SL makes a superbly graceful cruiser, and one that seems inordinately classy. Sure, there'll be some cynical passers-by, but the SL evokes a more positive response from the general public than some of its obvious plush open-top GT rivals. And AMG getting involved has done nothing to ruin said cruise.
2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350 d Coupé review | Autocar
What is it? Do you remember when a coupé was a coupé? I do. You know, the fixed-roofed, two-door, sleek-rooflined things traditionally reserved for two people. Well, as the Mercedes GLC Coupé demonstrates, those days are long gone. It is quite definitely an SUV, based on the firm's GLC, but given a dose of slopy-roofed style. Like the GLC, it shares its underpinnings with the Mercedes C-Class, while it borrows the GLC's bonnet, front wings and lower door panels.
2016 Hyundai Ioniq HEV Premium SE review | Autocar
What's it like? Not surprisingly, you don't come away from driving the Ioniq dumbfounded by scintillating dynamics, but then, that's not the point, and the same can be said of Toyota's Prius. For what it's worth, it about as quick as a Prius on paper and probably just about feels so from behind the wheel. Of greater note is the more agreeable way in which its power is delivered, via six ratios rather than via one continuous stream.
2016 Audi RS7 Performance review | Autocar
What is it? That's right, if you were about to lay down £85,485 for an Audi RS7, then wait. Because if you can find another £6500 down the back of the chaise longue, you can have this Audi RS7 Performance instead. Stumping up the extra gets you another 44bhp at the bi-turbo V8's top end and 37lb ft more torque, taking the Performance's totals to 597bhp and 553lb ft - the latter on overboost. The Performance suffix is an apt one.
2016 Audi A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI 150 S line S tronic review | Autocar
What is it? Few manufacturers move at the same rate of change as Audi, and the next model to be brought into line is its A3. A new grille, alloy wheel designs, headlights and tail-lights make up the headline changes to its exterior. Meanwhile, there are new 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine options and more power for the range-topping S3 hot hatch.
2016 Mercedes-Benz SL 400 AMG Line review
What's it like? It might be six cylinders and nearly £100,000 down on the range-topping SL 65, but the 400 feels every bit the luxurious open-top that it should. Its blown V6 doesn't produce the slapping burble of the AMG 63, nor the gravelly rasp of the 65 at its pipes, but push it hard and its purposeful, distinctive V6 howl is still addictive. It leaps forward and pulls with vigour towards its redline, sporting mid-range muscle and a sprint time that both feel more than adequate on road.
2016 Peugeot 2008 1.2 Puretech 130 GT Line review | Autocar
What is it? Unless you've been living under a rock for the last 10 years, you'll have noticed that SUVs are big business. To be honest, even if you have been living under said rock, you'd probably still have a small SUV out front on your driveway. Peugeot knows this; it has built nearly 600,000 of its 2008s worldwide since 2013, and enjoyed more than 40,000 UK sales.
2016 Audi TT Roadster 1.8 TFSI Sport review | Autocar
It's the new, more accessible starting point to Audi's TT Roadster range. Okay, at more than £29,000 this 1.8 TFSI-engined convertible is hardly a car of the people, but a saving of nearly £3200 over an equivalently trimmed 2.0 TFSI will be welcomed by the majority of Roadster buyers who pay using cash or finance. The catch? Well, with its 178bhp the 1.8 is some 49bhp down on the 2.0 and gives away a more considerable 89lb ft of twist.
2016 Mini John Cooper Works Convertible review | Autocar
What is it? Cooper. Now there's a name with some clout. Today, of course, it's more commonly associated with wicked-up Minis, but the heritage is strong here. Essentially, us Brits wouldn't be able to grin and swagger nearly as much at the mention of motorsport without Charles and John to thank.
2016 Jaguar F-Pace 2.0d UK drive review | Autocar
The dash that surrounds it is mostly constructed from plastics that give to the touch, but there's the odd piece of trim and switchgear that looks and feels below par considering the sort of money Jaguar is demanding. Porsche does a slightly better job with its Macan's cabin overall, truth be told, although an X3 gives the impression of a similar level of luxury. Should I buy one?
2016 Twisted T40s review
What's it like? That price, at least in this particular case, is £116,284. Now, here in the real world this seems like a lot of money, but for Twisted's higher-end customers, cash is perhaps a little more abundant. Also, Twisted hasn't just fitted the Defender with a V8 and then stuck a brew on. Firstly, the 's' bit of the T40s designation means there's Twisted Progressive suspension fitted, including new anti-roll bars, springs and dampers, all tuned with performance in mind.
2016 JE Motorworks Zulu2 110 review
What is it? Overhauled versions of the recently deceased Land Rover Defender are nothing new. Most of us are now familiar with names such as Twisted and Khan, who'll either take your Defender and modify it, or provide you with a blank canvas to modify at will. In much the same way, JE Engineering is nothing new either. It's been around since the mid-1970s and is perhaps best known for its work on performance versions of the P38 Range Rover.
