Behind the construct of the upcoming album “WESTx2” by 29-year-old Frederick hip-hop artist Demetrius, you can hear the sheer sweat equity — of miles literally walking, driving, observing and contemplating before organically building a remarkable album rooted in analog soul but delivered with a measure of digital swagger.

I’ve been in a continual state of shock since getting word last week that Cults are set to headline the music portion of the SilverVox Film & Music Festival. This is a cultural earthquake hitting the city. A band that ordinarily stops at the 9:30 Club … is playing Frederick. By simply appearing at the Weinberg on June 20, the hip quotient of Frederick will have been elevated exponentially. OK, Cults wasn’t originally the topic for this column. Where was I?

Live music in Frederick is stacked this weekend, so saddle up. Start March 19 at the Eagles Club, when Larval Organs kicks off a mid-coast tour with anti-folk legend Brook Pridemore. I previously profiled Larval Organs in 72 Hours (Dec. 18) with frontman Dan Penta, who built his anti-folk cred in Brooklyn before landing in Frederick. Pridemore traveled a similar path, making waves in New York alongside Kimya Dawson's Moldy Peaches outfit and others in the anti-folk community.
