Contemporary Ceramic Medium Pendant light WOMB By Jan Ernst de Wet Located in Bordeaux, FR This pendant light is entirely handmade of white stoneware by the South African artist and functional designer Jan Ernst. It is truly beautiful and has an amazing presence. This ceiling light brings a soft, calm light but strong enough to be useful in a kitchen above the kitchen island for instance. Its shape is inspired by the rock cavities of the Cederberg region in South Africa.

5 must-visit art foundations in the South of France From the coastline to the hills of Provence
The experience begins with the ferry crossing to Porquerolles, the largest of the Hyères Islands. Once docked on this island heavily explored by bicycle during the summer season, tourist map in hand, visitors reach this institution - created in 2000 and opened to the public in 2018 - either on foot or on two wheels. The site houses its collections both within the main building and across its wooded grounds.
Keith Haring - Keith Haring Secret Pastures 1984 (announcement)
Keith Haring began experimenting with his bold, graphic lines and cartoon-inspired figures on the walls of New York City subway stations in the early 1980s. He called them his “laboratory,” places to develop a radical new aesthetic based on an ideology of creating truly democratic public art. Haring’s paintings, prints and murals address the universal themes of death, love and sex, as well as contemporary issues he experienced personally, like the crack-cocaine and AIDS epidemics.

PAUL BERGEN/REDFERNSGetty Images It was the anger that first caught my attention. As a young feminist, I found it easy and satisfying to sing “I’ve had it up to here” at the top of my lungs along with Gwen Stefani. But my affinity for fury soon gave way to a preference for a kind of introspective sadness.

Brushstroke with Spatter
Roy Lichtenstein rose to prominence at the beginning of the 1960s and became one of the best-known practitioners of Pop Art. His brightly painted canvases depicting everyday objects, as well as scenes of war and romance culled from the pages of contemporary comics, were rendered in stylized black outlines and hand-painted Ben Day dots that mimicked the commercial printing process.

Roy Lichtenstein | Bathroom
Mark Joshua Epstein: We are looking at a 1961 painting by Roy Lichtenstein called Bathroom. Student 1: It's kind of random, like most people in their house have a bathroom, and why would you paint it is my feeling. Student 2: I think the object of this painting is just to show everyday, daily things that you see in life, and just to represent what their purpose is. Student 3: Well, I'm wondering why there's a copyrighted sign on the bottom left corner.

Unconventional, eccentric, much-loved – these are some of the ways people remember Daniel Brant, gallery owner and one of the celebrated experts on Pop Art and other contemporary genres. His many friends and colleagues in the world of fine arts were shocked to learn of his death, on January 19 2017 after a short illness. Daniel was co-founder and managing director of A&D Gallery in Marylebone, from 2000.

I don't think art is propaganda; it should be something that liberates the soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further. It celebrates humanity instead of manipulating it.
