Background Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally, with a disproportionate burden in low- and middle-income countries. Early identification of individuals at high risk is essential for prevention, particularly in resource-limited settings. Slum populations are especially vulnerable due to poor living conditions, unhealthy behaviors, and limited access to healthcare.

By Raju Lamichhanee, Rukum West, Aug. 24: Houses cracked by the earthquake that struck with its epicentre at Ramidanda in Jajarkot on November 3, 2023, have become increasingly vulnerable due to incessant rainfall. Nearly three years after the earthquake, the reconstruction process has failed to gather momentum, leaving earthquake victims more vulnerable during the monsoon.

They have also imposed a ban on further dumping at the site, pointing out rising pollution in the village despite repeated assurances from the municipality.
