The prevalence of diabetes has increased sharply in the United States over the past 4 decades with >34.2 million Americans with diabetes.1 More than 90% to 95% of the diabetes population are classified as type 2 diabetes (T2D).1 Type 1 diabetes, characterized by an inability to produce insulin because of autoimmunity, accounts for 5% to 10% of cases.
