MAINE, USA — Tuesday was a record-breaker in Portland, with temperatures beating the daily record by six degrees. The high temperature of 92 degrees occurred early afternoon, thanks to a gusty breeze from the west-southwest, staving off any sea breeze. This ties several years for the third hottest May temperature in Portland. The Jetport, where observations are taken, has recorded a higher temperature in the month of May on only two other occasions.

Drought conditions improve in Maine, but moisture deficits remain a concern

MAINE, USA — Maine’s drought has improved somewhat after the winter, but we’re not in the clear yet. The Drought Monitor is issued each Thursday, taking into account precipitation, streamflow, soil moisture, and reservoir levels, among other environmental factors. In late October, about 90% of the state was in Severe or Extreme drought, including 43% in Extreme drought.

Spring snow falls in Maine today

MAINE, USA — Spring has arrived both meteorologically and astronomically, so of course we're talking about snow. Here's a look at some snowfall totals we have seen across the state so far today: A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for most of the state, with Winter Storm Warnings in NW ME where snow totals will be highest. This time of year it's more difficult accumulating snow during the day. However, when the snow falls heavily it will have an easier time accumulating.
