It's no secret that many actors and filmmakers will start off their careers in horror before moving to a more dramatic space and a much broader career. (See: Jamie Lee Curtis or David Cronenberg, both of whom eventually returned to horror later on.) However, some artists can never entirely shake the horror bug that launched their career and continue to call back to their horror roots in their later, larger projects.

Sequels are a massive undertaking across all platforms, because there remains a legitimate risk when releasing them. Sure, they have the groundwork cut out for them with their predecessors, but the quality and success of one can determine whether the story can be continued or not. Many audiences and critics alike have ridiculed the concept of a sequel for years, and yet, they will always persis as long as there is a desire by the viewers.

McCarthy has made several short films and had mild success with his feature debut Caveat, but Oddity seems to be the film of McCarthy that has garnered the most attention. It has some terrific performances, genuine scares, and a consistent tone throughout.
