Tornado Watch issued for portions of Middle Georgia until 2AM

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch in effect until 2:00 AM EDT Thursday. The watch includes 61 counties across portions of north, central, east central, and west central Georgia. Within the Middle Georgia area, the following counties are included in the watch: Butts, Lamar, Schley, Sumter, Taylor, and Upson. This tornado watch means that atmospheric conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms.

Georgia Open Burn Ban Begins May 1st; Includes Middle Georgia and Atlanta Metro

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) will once again enforce its annual open burning ban from May 1 through September 30, a rule originally designed to protect air quality in the Atlanta metro area, but which now extends into parts of central Georgia, including Middle Georgia. MIDDLE GEORGIA OPEN BURN BAN MAP The burn ban was first implemented to reduce ground-level ozone pollution in metro Atlanta, where dense population and traffic increase air quality concerns.
