Currently, I am a student at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, earning a Master's of Investigative Journalism. Prior to moving to Arizona I received my Bachelor's in journalism from Mercer University. Onondaga County leaders float a housing crisis fix: Cheap money for builders

After months of meetings, a county task force dedicated to solving the housing crisis has outlined a handful of proposals for ways local government can ease the shortage of good housing here. The biggest piece of the proposal is the creation of a revolving loan fund for builders that would give them access to capital with low or no interest. But there’s are still unanswered questions: How big will that fund be? And who will help pay for it?

Onondaga County legislators approve term limit compromise

Onondaga County legislators took the first step toward a proposed compromise to fix a bungled local law establishing term limits for the county’s top elected positions. Legislators voted unanimously to place two options for term limits for the county comptroller and county executive on November’s ballot. Legislators Richard McCarron and Charles Garland were absent. The options will be: Three terms of four years, or a total of 12 years; and four terms of four years, for 16 years.

A former Syracuse commissioner of water is nominated for OCWA’s board

Syracuse, N.Y. -- A former City of Syracuse Commissioner of Water is expected to be appointed to the Onondaga County Water Authority board on Tuesday. Onondaga County Legislators will consider the nomination of Deborah Somers to replace Anthony Geiss Jr., whose term has expired. Geiss, who at one point was the authority’s chief engineer, is currently vice chair of the board. Somers works as a part-time auditor for the city, according to her resume.
