Sada Malumfashi is a writer and freelance journalist and one of several scholarship holders of the Berlin Reporters Without Borders Scholarship Program.
As a journalist, his works focus on the topics of sexual abuse, gender-based violence and feminism in conservative northern Nigeria. He was one of the first journalists to report on the #ArewaMeToo uprising in northern Nigeria, which is directed against violence against women and how men get away with impunity. Nigeria’s political system is becoming more concentrated around the presidency, with weakening institutional and electoral competition since 1999. The 2027 elections may become the first real test of this new order. If current trends continue, it could also become the most dangerous. The primary issue in this case is actually Nigerians’ imagination of what politics could be or should be.

On April 5, at the Juba airport in South Sudan, the United Stated deported a man in what became an international merry-go-round. South Sudan refused his entry, insisting that he is Congolese, and then deported him back to the United States. In response, Marco Rubio threw a tantrum and banned all visas of South Sudanese passports, plus sent this man again back to South Sudan. Because Africa is a country. I have a printed picture of Makula Kintu pasted on my work desk.
