After a year of cyclones, heatwaves, and floods, some of the Mid West-Gascoyne’s emergency services have been nominated for this year’s WA Fire and Emergency Services Awards. The finalists include emergency services personnel from around the State, with 35 nominees recognised for their work in 12 categories. Emergency Services Minister Paul Papalia said the nominees had demonstrated “extraordinary courage and commitment”.

His two-day stop in Geraldton on Friday and Saturday was the last major centre on Mr Zempilas’ “listening tour” of various regional and rural areas across WA.

Shire of Carnarvon holds first council meeting since mass resignation in lead-up to budget

The Shire of Carnarvon this week held its first council meeting since a mass exodus of councillors and the shire president left it unable to function. After the Carnarvon council was dissolved, former State MLC Martin Aldridge was appointed commissioner and is overseeing the shire until elections in December. He said a major purpose of the special council meeting held on Tuesday, June 16 was to appoint him as a delegate. “I’m effectively calling a meeting to appoint myself,” he said.
