There’s no shortage of live music pouring out of the coffee shop and bar venues around Athens year-round, but the largest venues in town wait out the summer to stack their lineups with touring bands and musicians in the fall. Here are a few concerts to look forward to, but be sure to check out the Live Music Calendar in print and online at flagpole.com for a more comprehensive list of shows.

A stoneware jug made in the mid-1800s by an enslaved man named David Drake belongs to the Georgia Museum of Art’s collection—one of approximately 250 identifiable pieces that remain from the tens of thousands ceramic vessels he was forced to create. On July 22, the museum and Drake’s descendants announced a historic agreement recognizing his heirs as the rightful beneficiaries of his artwork. Drake was an enslaved African American ceramicist who lived in Edgefield, SC.

7 Brew Coffee opened at 3455 Atlanta Highway today, with its soft opening over the weekend causing reports of a traffic jam on Timothy Road. The chain serves the usual hot and iced coffee drinks, in addition to customizable energy drinks, sodas, teas, lemonades, smoothies and shakes. Raising Cane’s on Baxter Street has reopened after a remodel, with no changes to its parking lot or drive-thru, which also often overflows into traffic.
