What is a hedge fund?
Often the difference between hedge funds and other types of fund is the range of strategies that can then be applied over the top of these assets, allowing them to trade flexibly within certain parameters. Using these rules and parameters mean hedge funds are useful strategies when a degree of predictability is important. They tend to borrow heavily to execute their strategies, which is known as leverage.

Active funds vs passive: Is active management still relevant?
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Credit: We Are/Getty Images The 'active versus passive' debate is one that has raged for over two decades, with one investment style broadly dominating the other at any given time. Active fund management relies on a skilled stock picker to select the investments for the portfolio. These carry higher fees and, in theory, ought to deliver better returns than simply tracking an index.
Can Andy Burnham win over UK plc?
Job market dynamics are another area of concern. Cost pressures have intensified, the jobs market has cooled, hiring is declining and vacancies are falling. This all raises questions over how to meet conflicting priorities. "We want to see how we shape the labour market in a way that balances everybody's needs… because at the moment things are looking a little bit risky, particularly when you layer in artificial intelligence," says Leach.

What can Gen Z teach you about investing?
Parker recalls the common shortage of hot water when he was growing up. "If you wanted more hot water you had to approach your mum and ask to put on the immersion heater, which was like you were asking to burn liquid gold. Because my parents had come of age during the oil shock of the 1970s, lodged in mum's psychology was this idea that energy 'is the thing which is going to get me.'" Today's younger investors are facing their own challenges.

But then what? When 'pension freedoms' took effect 11 years ago, it gave people a choice over what they could do with their pot for the first time. Investing in uncertain times: Why investors aren't waiting for the 'right' moment
There's an age-old investment adage that promotes the value of spending time in the market as opposed to trying to time the market. Unless you've got a crystal ball that tells you exactly when certain markets or asset classes are going to rise or fall, you're probably better off investing smaller amounts on a regular basis, referred to as pound cost averaging .
Should I use a workplace pension or a SIPP?
If you're a basic rate taxpayer, you get that relief automatically. If you're a higher rate (40%) or additional rate (45%) taxpayer you can claim extra relief through your self-assessment tax return. If you're employed, the key difference is usually flexibility versus convenience. A workplace scheme is all taken care of – it's organised by your employer, who makes contributions on your behalf and can benefit from institutional pricing that can make things more cost-effective.

How to tap into SpaceX IPO without investing directly
It is noteworthy that many of these investments have had greater demand than otherwise staple investments. “More people bought shares in Scottish Mortgage, Seraphim or the VanEck Space ETF during the past three months than blue chip stocks Shell, BP, AstraZeneca and National Grid, all of which regularly feature in the most popular names with UK investors,” said Coatsworth.

He and an employee put automatic milking machines on the cows’ udders, and fresh, creamy milk flows into a clear canister nearby. Soon, it’ll be in a bottle and on a shelf in his store a few feet away. Bobby Trimble has been a dairyman for 54 of his 64 years. The implied undertaking: Implications for Government entities
The legal obligation known as the "Implied Undertaking" or the "Harman Undertaking" has been in the spotlight due to the ongoing litigation surrounding Bruce Lehrmann. In recent months, Mr Lehrmann was accused of passing confidential and privileged documents that were protected by a Harman Undertaking to Channel Seven during his, now infamous, defamation trial.

Art on Four Wheels – Air Mail
Art on Four Wheels At $70 million, the Ferrari 250 GTO sells for almost as much as a Jeff Koons. But: you can drive it This spring, Jeff Koons’s stainless-steel Rabbit made headlines in all the respectable papers when it was hammered down at $91.1 million at a New York auction house. But when a Ferrari 250 GTO—the crown jewel of the classic-car world—reportedly changed hands in private for $70 million, it didn’t make The New York Times. After all, it’s not art; it’s just a … car.

Run Like Fire Once More
The runners slog past a bivouac of plastic card tables and folding chairs, past electric-green Port-O Lets ripe with disinfectant, past indifferently groomed hedges and the redbrick facade of Thomas A. Edison Vocational and Technical High School. At the corner of 168th Street, they cut north to the Grand Central Parkway, the course rising gently as trucks and cars rocket by. The concrete apron is a blinding white line. They pass illegally parked cars, wipers festooned with tickets.
