Regional Edward R. Murrow Award
2025
Since 1971, RTDNA has been honoring outstanding achievements in broadcast and digital journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards. Among the most prestigious in news, the Murrow Awards recognize local and national news stories that uphold the RTDNA Code of Ethics, demonstrate technical expertise and exemplify the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the community. Murrow Award-winning work demonstrates the excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession. WBIR received the Region 8 Murrow Award for "News Documentary" for our piece "Helene's Aftermath - 96 Hours in Asheville." I was a part of the team sent to western North Carolina as it was grappling with historic flooding from the hurricane. Together, we found and told stories both of devastation and of resilience, which were all combined into one documentary that encapsulates the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

This award is given for a single story covering a human-interest or profile subject. I received this recognition for my story 'Surviving the streets: A glimpse into the daily reality of homelessness'.

Most outstanding local on-air reporter broadcasting local news events and stories predominantly to a South Carolina audience. Entry must have been developed for the local community/audience.

2024 - Convergence Coverage
This award recognizes excellence in multimedia coverage of a locally originated single story/campaign. Along with my coworkers Peyton Lewis and Sharranda Neal, we received a Merit Award (runner up) for our team coverage “Remembering Firefighter James Muller.” This category includes non-news (public service or promotion) and news entries. Entries were judged on the breadth of coverage across two or more media platforms - one of which must be digital media (online, social media, mobile, etc.), maximizing the strengths and uniqueness of each media in bringing information to the user.
