Retired Professor in Columbus, Ohio Read my blog Over the past two decades, cancer research has grown and expanded significantly, bringing new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to conditions and illnesses for which there were not previously many options. The research team led by Dr. Samson Jacob made a significant contribution to this project. He has researched various aspects of liver cancer and some types of leukemia, particularly chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

How Liver Cancer Research Has Changed in the Past 10 Years

The last decade has seen a dramatic change in the way scientists treat and prevent liver cancer. The number of people dying of the disease has been rising, and the number of people with hepatocellular carcinoma has also been rising, especially among young people. Mortality rates have increased for both whites and non-whites and for people living in Kentucky. Since 2009, the death rate from cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in young people and people of color has been steadily going up.

Columbus, Ohio, US Samson T. Jacob received a research grant from the Damon Runyon Foundation in 1970 after being appointed Assistant Professor at MIT in 1969. The NIH grant was a highly competitive award at the time. For 50 years of his professional life, Dr. Jacob held at least one federal budget. He began working at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in the Department of Pharmacology as an Associate Professor in 1972. He was given the title of Tenured Professor four years later.
