Sangmuan Hangsing’s Biography

Sangmuan Hangsing is a Master’s in Public Policy Student at the Kautilya School of Public Policy, specializing in borderland studies and development policies in Northeast India.

Hailing from Manipur, a border state adjoining Myanmar, Sangmuan brings firsthand insights into the challenges faced by marginalized indigenous communities. Growing up in a working-class family under majoritarian dominance, he developed a unique perspective on governance, power dynamics, and minority rights, combining lived experience with analytical rigour.

Sangmuan has contributed to The Himal Southasian, The Indian Express, The Wire, The Quint, The Print, EastMojo and Borderlens, where he addresses critical issues such as regional politics, governance, and indigenous rights.

His academic and professional focus includes borderland development, conflict-affected regions, and the Act East Policy’s impact on Northeast India.
