Jonathan Weber, a very experienced political and technology editor (Reuters, Industry Standard, The Los Angeles Times, Bay Citizen, The San Francisco Standard, Missoula’s New West), enjoyed a catbird’s seat for the rise of San Francisco as a tech Camelot. Weber has now just published a book that depicts the rise of the world’s dominant leader of technology, City on the Edge (Simon & Schuster).

Joel Connelly, considered by many to be the Dean of Seattle political journalism, died on April 15, the victim of a long battle with diabetes. He resided for many years in Madrona neighborhood and on Whidbey Island. Oddly, as a tough journalist, he was widely loved both by friends and sources, as well as by residents of Horizon House, and particularly his caretakers, where he courageously lived his last few years as his body wore out.

My suggestion for new Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson is to shift her priorities to actually reforming schools. I fear her ambitious affordability agenda will run into funding problems, particularly now that the city and Seattle Schools are deep in debt. Her civic agenda could be a formula for a slow erosion of her popularity. As it happens, there is a strong agenda for change in a key aspect of Wilsonian equality — improving Seattle public schools, starting with school boards.
