Mastoparan as a Potential Cause of Hemolytic Anemia due to a Suspected Single Wasp Sting in a Dog
Objective In people, severe Hymenoptera stings can lead to systemic allergic reactions, acute kidney injury, rhabdomyolysis, hemolysis, shock, and even death. Hemolytic anemia as a result of multiple honeybee stings has been reported in dogs; however, there are no prior reports of hemolytic anemia due to wasp stings in the dog. In this report, we present a case of a dog that developed hemolytic anemia after a single wasp sting.

ABSTRACT In the recurrence of cancer and autoimmune diseases, cellular senescence, a state where cells cease division, plays a pivotal role. Distinguishing the senescence is requires a combination of multiple markers.
Metasurface-enabled multifunctional single-frequency sensors without external power - NPG Asia Materials
Abstract IoT sensors are crucial for visualizing multidimensional and multimodal information and enabling future IT applications/services such as cyber-physical spaces, digital twins, autonomous driving, smart cities and virtual/augmented reality (VR or AR). However, IoT sensors need to be battery-free to realistically manage and maintain the growing number of available sensing devices.
A novel pathogenic variant located just upstream of the C‐terminal Ser423‐X‐Ser425 phosphorylation motif in SMAD3 causing Loeys-Dietz syndrome
1 INTRODUCTION Aortic wall development and homeostasis depend heavily on Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling, and dysregulated signaling has been linked to the formation of both hereditary and acquired aortic aneurysms and dissections (Lin & Yang, 2010). With several clinical characteristics resembling those of Marfan syndrome (MFS), Loeys–Dietz syndrome (LDS) is an autosomal-dominant heritable disease affecting connective tissue.
Quantification of depth‐dependent microbial growth in encapsulated systems
INTRODUCTION Microbial encapsulation is a versatile environmental biotechnology with applications ranging from nutrient removal (Wang et al., 2021) and resource recovery (Chen et al., 2021) from wastewater to bioremediation of contaminants (Valdivia-Rivera et al., 2021). The permeable matrices used as encapsulants not only selectively retain microorganisms but also protect them against potential inhibitors in the external environment (Zhu et al., 2020).
Contrasting response of soil microbiomes to long-term fertilization in various highland cropping systems - ISME Communications
Abstract Soil microbiomes play important roles in supporting agricultural ecosystems. However, it is still not well-known how soil microbiomes and their functionality respond to fertilization in various cropping systems.
Thermo-optical measurements using quantitative phase microscopy
Abstract Quantitative phase microscopy (QPM) literally images the quantitative phase shift associated with image contrast, where the phase shift can be altered by laser heating. In this study, the thermal conductivity and thermo-optic coefficient (TOC) of a transparent substrate are simultaneously determined by measuring the phase difference induced by an external heating laser using a QPM setup. The substrates are coated with a 50-nm-thick titanium nitride film to photothermally generate heat.

A High-Throughput Microfluidic Quantitative PCR Platform for the Simultaneous Quantification of Pathogens, Fecal Indicator Bacteria, and Microbial Source Tracking Markers
Abstract Contamination of water with bacterial, viral, and protozoan pathogens can cause human diseases. Both humans and non-humans can release these pathogens through their feces.
Temporal assessment of N-cycle microbial functions in a tropical agricultural soil using gene co-occurrence networks
Keystone N-cycle genes We looked for keystone genes that played a role in connecting network functions to identify putative keystones at each timepoint. Betweenness centrality, closeness centrality, and normalized node degree are measures that can indicate the relative importance of a node in a network (Table 1).
A Janus emitter for passive heat release from enclosures
Abstract Passive radiative cooling functions by reflecting the solar spectrum and emitting infrared waves in broadband or selectively. However, cooling enclosed spaces that trap heat by greenhouse effect remains a challenge. We present a Janus emitter (JET) consisting of an Ag–polydimethylsiloxane layer on micropatterned quartz substrate.

Experimental Evidence for in Situ Nitric Oxide Production in Anaerobic Ammonia-Oxidizing Bacterial Granules
Although nitric oxide (NO) emissions from anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox)-based processes were reported previously, the NO production pathways are poorly understood. Here, we investigated the NO production pathways in anammox granules in detail by combining 15N-stable isotope tracer experiments with various inhibitors, microsensor measurements, and transcriptome analysis for key genes of NO – reduction. NO was emitted from the anammox granules, which account for 0.07% of the N emission.

Nitrogen Cycle Evaluation (NiCE) Chip for Simultaneous Analysis of Multiple N Cycle-Associated Genes
A Microfluidic Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction Method for the Simultaneous Analysis of Dozens of Antibiotic Resistance and Heavy Metal Resistance Genes - Environmental Science & Technology Letters (ACS Publications)
This study developed, optimized, and demonstrated a microfluidic quantitative polymerase chain reaction (MF-qPCR) method for the simultaneous quantification of 39 antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), five heavy metal resistance genes, three genes encoding the integrase of three different classes of integrons, and 16S rRNA genes (used as a measure of total bacterial biomass).
