1 Introduction How and why do we decide to help others? Historical research in social psychology has focused on stranger-directed helping in emergency situations and immediate contextual factors that influenced those decisions (e.g., Latané and Darley 1970). The overwhelming majority of real-life helping behaviors, however, are directed towards family and friends (McGuire 1994), who are the people we both recurrently interact with and value more than strangers.

The nonprofit Allied Scholars for Animal Protection, or ASAP, believes students have the power to solve the world’s most pressing animal-rights issues and lead one of the most important movements in history—their strategy: going vegan. Founded in 2022, the organization has chapters at 17 universities across the country, and this year, they’re working to bring their pro-animal rights advocacy to Purdue.

From late nights filled with brainstorming to months of trial and error, the Purdue Hackers Club recognized that creation is messy, imperfect, yet all the more worth showcasing. Purdue Hackers hosted their second annual exhibition, “Spill”, last Saturday at Vienna Coffeehouse. The event was a display of almost two dozen creative technology projects. Purdue Hackers is one of the largest student organizations on campus, filled with members from a diverse range of majors and experience levels.
