BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It was a hot, humid day and you were expecting a thunderstorm to cool the air… The ingredients were there, but it never happened. And you’re wondering, why? The answer may have been just over your head. Literally. It’s called a capping inversion. Usually, the atmosphere cools as you go higher up in it, and warmer pockets of air at the surface rise through the cooler air.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Summer isn’t over for another month, but we can already say it’s been hot. But the longest day of the year was actually the first day of summer…two months ago! So, why is the average temperature just starting to fall? And why have the days been so hot recently since the days are getting shorter? It’s called a thermal lag. And the reasoning lies around and just inside the Earth.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –It’s a place we’ve visited a couple of times this year…Barren River Lake. A prime place for fishing, swimming, boating…nearly all things nature. But what you may not know is the main purpose of the lake isn’t recreation. Deryck Rodgers, the Army Corp of Engineer’s project manager of Barren River Lake, says all those recreational activities are part of the lake, just not the purpose.
