Oscar Wilde said “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness”, and this fits Wild Blue Skies succinctly, as it’s just a legally distinct shot-for-shot remake of Star Fox 64. This Star Fox-like looks the part, and can sometimes play the part, but the jig is up long before the credits roll. Wild Blue Skies is a soulless copy of a better game, and in isolation had so much promise of being something stellar to be remembered all its own.

I remember the first time I experienced GoldenEye 007. It wasn’t the controls, the visuals, or even seeing it on a large CRT at my friend’s house. No, it was a way for my friend to test his dad’s new home theater audio setup to hear that awesome pause menu music, gun sounds, and explosions the game had to offer. Developer Replicant D6 does well to emulate the style and feel of Rare’s Nintendo 64 shooters GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark like how I remember.
