(WTVO/WQRF) — The Guilford Vikings graduated several key seniors from their NIC-10 co-championship team last season, but they still had enough talent to capture the championship of the Rockford East Summer League Monday night. The Vikings edged the Jefferson J-Hawks 50-47. Guilford reached the championship game earlier Monday evening by defeating Pecatonica 65-54 in the semifinals. Jefferson defeated Auburn 43-35 in the other semifinal.

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — There is a new semi-pro football team in the Stateline, and it’s thriving right now. It’s the Freeport Lions. The Lions have won seven of their first eight games this season competing in the Michigan Football League. The MFL includes teams from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Iowa. The Lions are in their first season of existence. They practice and play games on the old Aquin High School football field.
