A trusted-agent credential can prove who initiated a payment. It cannot prove whose interests shaped the choice. Banks and networks need transaction-bound evidence of material incentives before an agent's recommendation becomes a charge. The next serious dispute in agentic commerce may not look like fraud. No stolen credential. No breached account. No amount above the customer's limit. A customer authorises an AI agent to book a refundable, nonstop flight for less than $1,000. Two itineraries qualify.

Agentic commerce has reached checkout. Yet much of its control architecture still stops at permission. At 10:00, a customer authorises an AI agent to buy one laptop from a named seller on an approved marketplace for no more than £1,500, as a one-time purchase, with delivery to the company’s London office. At 10:05, the agent arrives at checkout. The agent’s identity is verified. Its delegation credential is authentic and unrevoked. The payment credential is valid. The API request is well-formed.
