This year, Scott Wheeler and Harman Dayal are joined by Corey Pronman for our quarterly Calder Trophy ranking, beginning with this preseason look at the top 20 rookies (plus honorable mentions) heading into the 2026-27 NHL season. This list differs from Wheeler and Pronman’s own prospects rankings in that it’s only about predicting and projecting their rookie seasons, and not their careers.

Welcome to my annual fantasy hockey dynasty rankings at The Athletic. This project ranks the top-100 players — 25-and-under — for dynasty and keeper leagues. It’s meant to be a resource for managers in larger (in teams), deeper (in roster size), longer-term leagues. The rankings are designed to project these players across the next five years. It uses the U26 cohort, meaning all of the players listed will play the entirety of that five-year window in their teens or 20s.
