A clinical trial testing a new type of cell therapy for mesothelioma is actively recruiting patients at sites across the country, including Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. This is an early-stage trial. The therapy, called SynKIR-110, is a lab-engineered cell treatment designed to target mesothelin, a protein found on the surface of most mesothelioma tumor cells.

New Guidelines Say Surgery Benefits Select Mesothelioma Patients

A national panel of 15 mesothelioma specialists across surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology and pathology reached a consensus and issued new guidelines for surgery. The experts reviewed 116 studies and data from 630 mesothelioma surgeries between 2015 and 2025. After 3 rounds of formal voting, the panel challenged reluctance to recommend mesothelioma surgery following a controversial 2025 trial.

Gene Test May Predict Who Responds to New Mesothelioma Drug

The mesothelioma drug RSO-021 showed promise in an early trial this month. Now the same research team has a lead on who may respond before treatment even starts. The findings come from the same drug study from researchers at the University of Vermont and University of Leicester. It was published July 14 in Nature Communications. Genetic Findings From the Study Tumors with changes in BAP1 and SETD2 genes responded significantly better to the drug in lab testing on patient tissue.
