1 INTRODUCTION Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the intracellular accumulation of Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites in neurons and glial cytoplasmic inclusions oligodendrocytes, consisting primarily of alpha-synuclein.1 Accumulation of alpha-synuclein is a common feature of synucleinopathies such as Parkinson disease and dementia with Lewy bodies.
