ABSTRACT This longitudinal cohort-study investigated the impact of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (the Imagination Library) in Tamworth, Australia. The Imagination Library delivers age-appropriate books to children from the time of their birth until their fifth birthday. Caregivers of Tamworth children completed surveys about their experience with the program after receiving one book (“baseline;” N = 343) and then at six months (N = 116) and three years (N = 89).

1 ANXIETY IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS Childhood and adolescence are challenging developmental periods marked by significant physical, cognitive, and social changes. As a result, young people are vulnerable to developing anxiety, ranging from mild symptoms that can be managed, to clinical disorders that interfere with everyday functioning (Beesdo et al., 2009).

ABSTRACT There is good evidence for an association between poor reading and anxiety, but the mechanisms responsible for this association are currently unknown. In this study, we used structural equation modeling of four large longitudinal databases from the United Kingdom (n = 7,870), the United States (ns = 8,001 and 7,160), and Australia (n = 768) to explore relations between reading and emotional health across childhood.
