Abstract During pregnancy, mental health conditions are a major health concern across the globe. Common mental disorders have complex effects on the health of the mother and fetus, as well as long-lasting social and economic repercussions. Hence, this study aimed to assess the worldwide pooled prevalence and risk factors of common mental disorders in pregnant women.

This is a multi-country, cross-sectional study using the most recent Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) datasets from four East African countries conducted between 2021 and 2023. The countries included in this study are Kenya, Mozambique, Madagascar, and Tanzania. The datasets were downloaded in STATA format from the DHS website (http://www.dhsprogram.com). The countries were selected based on the availability of recent, standardized DHS datasets.
