Background Risky sexual behavior remains a significant public health challenge in Sub-Saharan Africa, contributing to the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections. Despite extensive research on risky sexual behavior among specific populations such as adolescents and young women, there is limited evidence on the spatial variations of risky sexual behavior and its determinants among men and women aged 15–49 years across Sub-Saharan Africa.

This is a multi-country, cross-sectional study using the most recent Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) datasets from four East African countries conducted between 2021 and 2023. The countries included in this study are Kenya, Mozambique, Madagascar, and Tanzania. The datasets were downloaded in STATA format from the DHS website (http://www.dhsprogram.com). The countries were selected based on the availability of recent, standardized DHS datasets.
