By Tunde Omolehin/Sokoto Ten-year-old Samisu Abdullahi (not real name) is a regular face at the Central Motor Park in Sokoto, northwest Nigeria. Though he was enrolled in a Qur’anic school in the inner-city neighbourhood, Samisu, along with three peers, often trekked several miles to the city’s motor park, seeking any available menial jobs. Malam Adamu Yushu’a, a tea seller at the motor park, said Samisu and his peers are well-known children who do all kinds of jobs for a living.

By Seun Akioye A Southwestern Nigerian state of Ekiti is leaving nothing to chance in its fight against addictive tobacco use as it plans to update its existing tobacco control laws to include new and emerging tobacco and nicotine products while warning that these products pose a significant threat to public health, especially among young people. The commitment was made this week during a stakeholder engagement in Ado-Ekiti to commemorate World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) 2026.
