Racism in footy - how far have we come?
Thread starter #10 No doubt you have a valid point. I take it very seriously too and I find much of what is still said outrages. But at the same time I think many ignorant people fail to grasp what racism actually entails which I find frustrating. I have not heard what was said by those who were ejected, but I would not be surprised if unintelligent security misinterpreted what was said, unfortunately. However, if they were outright racist it's disappointing.

Employee Spotlight: Renel Brooks-Moon
In honor of Black History Month, we are spotlighting our Public Address announcer Renel Brooks-Moon who is entering her 22nd season with the San Francisco Giants. Most affectionately known as “Renel,” she received a B.A. in English Literature from Mills College and began her career in Bay Area radio and television broadcasting. In 2000, Renel was honored to be chosen as the Public Address Announcer for the San Francisco Giants as the team found a new home at 24 Willie Mays Plaza.
From the desk of Larry Baer - Health and Safety Update
Happy New Year! I hope you are safe and healthy and looking forward to the upcoming baseball season. While our state and country continue to face many challenges resulting from the pandemic, I am feeling more optimistic as vaccines begin to become available in our communities. We certainly have a ways to go until we get past the pandemic, but we are encouraged and can see a pathway to welcoming our fans back to Oracle Park.
Remembering Tom Seaver
By Jay Horwitz Today is a day of reflection for me. It would have been Tom Seaver’s 76th birthday. I still remember, as if it were yesterday, the call I got a little over two months ago from Tom’s daughter, Sarah. “Don’t tell me,” I said to her. She replied that her dad had passed. No one will ever forget 1969, his three Cy Young awards, his 311 victories, or his nearly unanimous Hall of Fame selection. For me, I will rememberTom Seaver, my friend, and his great sense of humor.

Jackie Robinson Day 2020
Seventy-three years ago, Jackie Robinson broke Baseball’s color barrier when he made his historic MLB debut. This year on August 28, our game honors Jackie’s legacy by celebrating his life, values, and accomplishments. Although April 15 is the date Jackie changed our game and nation forever, MLB and the Giants understand the importance of still acknowledging this significant Civil Rights milestone.

The Stories That Are Hardest to Tell - Jaylin Davis
Growing up I always thought my mom was so over protective. When I left for college, she called me almost every day. “Just checking in,” she’d say. “What’s new? How’s school?” Small talk. She still continues to do this until this day. Only in the last few weeks did I realize why she made those calls. She worried about me every single day. She needed to hear my voice and know that I was safe. I’m a quiet, laid-back person. Always have been. As my Giants teammates will tell you, I don’t say much. I’m polite.

Dave Dravecky - Inside Giant Moments
By Mark Willard Of all the discussions we’ve had for Inside Giant Moments, there was one moment that might’ve been the most rewarding. Dave Dravecky, the man with one of the most intense personal stories in the history of sports, started to share some very intimate details. As he started to describe the experience of waking up in a hospital room to discover he no longer had a left arm or shoulder, he stopped.
SFGiants COVID-19 Community Response
COVID-19 has thrown us into unprecedented times and, like all of you, we’re navigating this new terrain almost day by day, working to keep our colleagues, neighbors and loved ones healthy and safe and figuring out ways to help those most impacted by this pandemic. The worst of times so often brings out the best in humanity, and the quiet acts of selflessness and heroism all around us every day continue to leave us awestruck.
JT Snow - Inside Giant Moments
He was trying to score a run, but in the process he scored a ton of fans for life. Privately, I wonder if JT Snow is just slightly annoyed with the fact that he is most remembered for picking up a 3 year old boy on his way to scoring a run as opposed to all the big hits and defensive gems he provided the Giants through his years. But he understands why that moment resonated at such a level. It was amazing to dive into Snow’s story. There are more big hits than you may remember.
Brandon Crawford’s Gimme Shelter (in Place) Playlist
One of my favorite things about music is being able to interpret a song and its lyrics in your own way. Here’s an upbeat/positive 10-song playlist I came up with that I thought applied to what’s going on in the world right now 1 - “Three Little Birds” Bob Marley & The Wailers If this song doesn’t put you in a better mood, don’t even bother listening to the rest. 2 - “Believe” Meek Mill ft. Justin Timberlake No matter what you’re going through, keep believing you can make it out of it.

A Magical Week at Fenway Park
Fenway Park, the oldest park in Major League Baseball. There is something magical about that. But, this week there was a little more magic in the historic ballpark. For the first time since 1983 there was another Yastrzemski in left field. Mike Yastrzemski, grandson of Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski, took the field at Fenway where his grandfather patrolled for 23 seasons. At one point in their conversation, Willie asked to see Pillar’s glove. Pillar fetched it and Mays immediately put it on.
Belt Blog is Back! - Brandon Belt
That was a long ovation. The pregame for Friday’s home opener was the best one I’ve ever been a part of. Hands down. Because it was all about the people who have made the Giants great, starting with Boch. I’m sure he already knows how much people love him, but it was good for him to see and hear everyone cheering and cheering when he was introduced. Watching him kind of break down a little, it makes you emotional, too. It was awesome. Then there was Willie McCovey.

I’m Not Good at Saying Goodbye — Gregor Blanco – Splash Hits
When I got up Sunday morning and was driving to the ballpark, I was watching the whole city, the sky, the bridge, the streets, the people, the ballpark. Everything was really emotional because I didn’t know if it was the last time I would ever make that drive. It was definitely a moment of sadness for me and a moment of taking it all in. I thought about so many moments during my career here in San Francisco. I remember that first day when I got to the clubhouse in Scottsdale in 2012.
