1 Introduction Since their discovery, antibiotics have played a fundamental role in treating bacterial infections, saving millions of lives worldwide. However, the misuse and overuse of these drugs have led to the rapid emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which is now a growing global concern [1]. The epidemiological projections indicated that AMR could cause up to 10 million deaths per year by 2050 and result in a 2%–3.5% decline in global gross domestic product [2].
