A night of style, positivity and celebration ushered in the inaugural Pride of Tyrone Awards 2026 recently, highlighting local heroes and hospitality in Tyrone. Run by the Inn Bar Group, Canavan’s Bar and Restaurant, Ballygawley, the first such awards – held on Saturday, January 10 – welcomed a cross-community gathering of people and groups drawn from all walks of life.

Hardy folk of all ages braved the freezing waters of Lough Erne once again on New Year's Day for an annual January 1 swim. Taking the plunge at Galloon Jetty, the swimmers took to the bitterly cold waters for the annual traditional swim, welcoming in the New Year with a bracing swim. Adding to the upbeat mood on the day, this year's swim was fundraising for Newtownbutler Playgroup, with swimmers inviting supporters to splash some cash on the worthy cause.

Fermanagh Harriers once again held a very successful Boxing Day meet, with the annual event drawing plenty of onlookers as the participants passed through Enniskillen shortly after noon. The favourable Christmas weather continued on the day, with bright sunshine accompanying the riders, mounts and dogs as they paraded through Enniskillen town centre and then out along the Lough Shore Road to Derrygonnelly Road, with charity buckets helping to collect money on the day.
