Former Ponca City resident killed in Cowley County accident

By SHANE FARLEY |  COWLEYPOST.COM COWLEY COUNTY — A pedestrian killed in an accident that occurred at 7:20 p.m. Feb. 28  at the intersection of  U.S. 77 and 242nd Road near Arkansas City, Kan. has been identified by Cowley County authorities as 32-year-old  former Ponca City resident Kasey Joe Barclay. Cowley County deputies responded to the area and found that Barclay had been hit by a silver 2014 Nissan Rogue traveling northbound on U.S. 77.

By Tracy McCue and Shane Farley, Sumner Newscow — The jury trial of Dennis “Wade” Farley kicked off this morning at the Sumner County Courthouse. Farley is being charged with murder in the first degree over the death of Lane Hallman, 23, of South Haven. Farley is accused of distributing Fentanyl, leading to Hallman’s death on Sept. 15, 2020. The charge is considered an off-grid felony and could carry life imprisonment if Farley were to be convicted.

Geuda Springs man dies after vehicle crash over a bridge northeast of Winfield

By Shane Farley, Sumner Newscow — A Geuda Springs man died Sunday afternoon after his vehicle crashed and came to rest teetering over a bridge in rural Cowley County, authorities said. Around 2:15 p.m. that day, Cowley County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of U.S. 160 and 151st Road, northeast of Winfield near Burden, after a report of a reckless driver. The caller said the vehicle was failing to maintain its lane and was last seen traveling northbound on 151st Road.
