Shannon Becker’s Biography

Shannon Becker began his broadcasting career in high school job shadowing at a local radio station and local television station in his hometown. By his senior year he had secured his own slot as a paid part time radio disc jockey. But it didn't stop there.

Graduating Missouri Southern State University with a BA in Mass Comm. Becker juggled part time radio jobs in two markets. Upon graduation he was named his first full time radio job as a music director and also a full time daily slot on the air.

After being promoted to Program Director and spending five years as PD/MD at a leading reporting station he had built a rapport with a handful of record companies based in Nashville. June 1997 he made the jump to National Promotions at a Major Record company.

Still with his finger in radio and video he was on the other side of the marketing and promotion coin where he spent nearly 20 years. Gaining accolades including nearly 30 Gold and Platinum release campaigns. Warner Bros, Sony, Curb, EMI, all major labels with major success.

All the while Becker continued doing part time radio, television and voice work. You can't take that passion of connecting with an audience from a real broadcaster.

In 2017 with the coffin of record sales and radio airplay about to shut Becker wrapped the record label aspect of his career with Warner Bros and Blake Shelton's 'If I'm Honest' release.

It was almost immediately he shifted gears and launched Joplin News First as the creator and reporter. Featuring Live! and Local News Stories on Periscope and Facebook Live!

Just before finishing his second year on his own he was hired by the ABC/NBC combo in Joplin, Missouri. Spending 3.5 years there.

Then January 2022 moving to KOAM CBS/FOX, Morgan Murphy Media Inc.

With 150,000+ followers on Facebook, not including the 16,000+ on Instagram and Twitter he is the most-read local personality as Joplin News First.

Shannon Becker continues that same career he launched in 1988, 38 years ago. Connecting local listeners with local stories.
