A Call to Discipleship
As disciples of Christ, our work is to live radical lives of faith and love. May we take seriously this call to discipleship, letting Jesus’ example influence every decision we make. Oh perfect Christ, I often fall short of your ways yet my desire to be like you is sincere. When I stumble on the path of discipleship strengthen me with the grace to begin again. Thank you for giving me a model of compassion and holiness to strive for. Stay ever near me so I may become more like you. Amen.
Embrace Your Creativity
We all have been made in the image of a creative God, and we mirror that divine creativity in millions of ways. Let’s pray today to find creative expressions to nourish our souls. O imaginative Creator, help me embrace my own creativity by revealing to me my unique ability to solve problems, express emotions, portray experiences, invent solutions, and tell stories. I praise you for making each human being to reflect you in a particular way.

Praying with Our Bodies
Although our culture separates body and spirit, the very incarnation of Jesus speaks to a higher reality. Just as Jesus embodied both divinity and humanity, so, too, do our bodies hold our humanity and the Holy Spirit. To live out the maximum spiritual health we were made for, we are called to the work of integration; and engaging our bodies in the act of prayer is the fast track to get there.
The Witness of LGBTQ+ People
BY SHANNON EVANS | July 3, 2023 Sunday’s Readings In my life, LGBTQ+ people have taught me about the sacredness of being true to oneself despite the cost. This matters because when we accept the parts of ourselves that others have tried to change or silence, we are really accepting a particular revelation of God. For this reason, in my work as an editor at the National Catholic Reporter, I have found great value in amplifying queer voices.
Mambo Zombi is a welcome respite amid bustling Edgewood Avenue
Though it opened in the lead-up to Halloween 2022, Mambo Zombi is definitely not a Halloween bar. Despite the mai tai and Singapore sling on the menu, it’s not a tiki bar. Also, if you’re looking for it—you’re right, there’s no sign. But it’s also not a speakeasy. Located on the second floor of Georgia Beer Garden, this low-key, 50-seat lounge is a welcome respite from the race-car energy of the Edgewood Avenue corridor below.

Prison Farms: A Correctional Confessional

The audio is a transcript of the written piece recorded by Calvin Neufeld for Geez Out Loud.

Realtor View: Add luster to your home before placing on the market
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 11:00 pm CST, Saturday, December 21, 2019 Some remodeling choices may add value to homes, others can actually subtract value, and some choices, such as a built-in aquarium, may make a property extremely challenging to sell. Most remodeling projects cost more than the amount your home’s value will increase, so you shouldn’t assume that you’ll recoup every cent you spend on a home-improvement project.
Realtor View: Holding an open house can give you marketing edge
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 11:00 pm CST, Saturday, December 7, 2019 Most open houses are held to attract potential buyers. However, when your home is open to the public, anyone can stop by for a peek — even casual observers looking for decorating ideas. Your Realtor can help you decide if an open house is right for you and can walk you through the process. In the meantime, here are a few things to keep in mind when making your decision. Why hold an open house?
Realtor View: Make safety a priority when house hunting
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 11:00 pm CST, Saturday, November 30, 2019 Personal and home security are concerns whether you’re old or young, single or married, a parent or not. Protection of self and property is a fundamental component of feeling safe, and this is especially true in our homes — and always becomes top of mind during the holiday season. So, if you’re in the market to buy a home, be mindful of security during your search.
Realtor View: Counteroffers and contracts - Follow tips to get through the process
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 11:00 pm CST, Saturday, November 23, 2019 Many real estate transactions would never come to pass if not for counteroffers. Sure, some deals get done with an acceptance of the original offer, but the fact is that many offers to buy are met with a counteroffer — even when the price is right. There often is a lot of negotiation before buyers and sellers agree to terms. But you can get through the counteroffer phase with your sanity intact.
Realtor View: What should you do to help sell your home?
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 11:00 pm CST, Saturday, November 9, 2019 Selling your home can be downright frightening, particularly if you are constrained by time or money. If your property has been on the market for a while, don’t lose hope. Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate. Knowing what problems exist and how to fix them may entice buyers and increase the opportunity for a sale. If you have overpriced your home, you will likely find it difficult to sell.
Realtor View: Don’t pass up that final walk-through
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 11:00 pm CDT, Saturday, November 2, 2019 With only a couple of days left before closing on your new house, everything is almost official, so why not take a walk? Inspect the property one more time to confirm the condition of the house prior to closing. Spend 30 minutes to an hour walking around the place. You probably have dozens of things on your to-do list. After all, buying a house is a hectic time. But here’s why a final walk-through is a good idea.
Realtor View: Get it in writing when buying, selling
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 11:00 pm CDT, Saturday, October 26, 2019 Want to decrease your chances of ending up embroiled in a lawsuit when you buy or sell property? Then I strongly advise you to not rely on verbal agreements. Real estate deals are usually some of the most complicated, expensive transactions in people’s lives. Yet, time and again, misunderstandings occur. Buyers think sellers promised to make certain repairs.
Realtor View: Mortgage preapproval makes offer more attractive
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 11:00 pm CDT, Saturday, October 19, 2019 Image 1 of / 1 Caption Close Image 1 of 1 Before you submit an offer on your dream home, get preapproved or prequalified for a mortgage loan. Either one can make your offer more attractive to the seller, but they mean different things. To get prequalified for a mortgage loan, you provide a lender your approximate income, current debts and any important details from your credit history.
Realtor View: Those little designation letters mean a lot
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 11:00 pm CDT, Saturday, October 12, 2019 While working with a Realtor to buy or sell a home, you may have seen what resembles alphabet soup after your Realtor’s name — “GRI,” “CRB” or “CRE” — and wondered what those letters mean. Like most industries that are constantly changing, real estate demands continuing education throughout a Realtor’s career.

By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 11:00 pm CDT, Saturday, August 17, 2019 If you plan to buy a home or condominium this year, keep in mind that the property may be governed by a homeowners association, or HOA. More than 63 million people live within communities that are overseen by HOAs, according to the Community Associations Institute. That means 24 percent of U.S. homes are part of community associations.
Realtor View: What to do if you must file complaint in real estate
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 12:00 am CDT, Sunday, August 11, 2019 When you have a negative experience at a restaurant, store, or doctor’s office, what do you do? You might speak to the service provider to get a refund, discount or other arrangement that rectifies the problem. In real estate, there is another step that you can take if you have a less than ideal experience, however unlikely it may be. Here’s what you need to know if you have to lodge a complaint. Are you dealing with a Realtor?
Realtor View: Help prepare children for the stress of moving
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 12:00 am CDT, Sunday, July 14, 2019 Moving is one of the most stressful experiences one has in a lifetime. In fact, studies show that only serious events like death of an immediate family member, divorce or job loss rank higher on the stress scale than moving. As difficult as it can be for adults, it’s also very hard on kids. Children are creatures of habit.
Realtor View: Which property is the best fit for your needs?
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 12:00 am CDT, Sunday, June 30, 2019 When you think of your ideal home, do you envision a detached, single-family house with a big lawn? Many people associate this image with homeownership, but the best fit for you might be a historic townhome on a tree-lined street or a top-floor penthouse overlooking a city skyline. Whatever you imagine, choosing the right property depends on your situation and goals.
Realtor View: You can be a savvy first-time home seller in today’s market
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 12:00 am CDT, Sunday, June 23, 2019 Remember when you were a first-time home buyer? Were you excited but overwhelmed? It’s not unusual to feel that way as a first-time seller either, and it’s just as involved of a process — if not more so. But knowing what to expect can make the selling process go smoothly. Here are five ways to be a smart first-time seller. 1.

Realtor View: Realtor’s knowledge helps prevent negotiating mistakes
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 12:00 am CDT, Sunday, June 9, 2019 You’ve heard that everything is negotiable when it comes to real estate: price, closing date, who pays for new carpet in the bedrooms, whether the patio furniture comes with the house. Any of these can be part of the deal. Just remember that whether you think negotiating in a real estate transaction is exciting or terrifying, you won’t get the things you don’t ask for. If there is something special you want, speak up.
Realtor View: A real estate license does not a Realtor make
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 12:00 am CDT, Sunday, May 26, 2019 Real estate is a diverse industry with residential, commercial and other specialties. If you are ready to sell a house, you obviously want an agent who knows residential real estate. But what else should you consider as you start this process? Holding a real estate license does not make someone a Realtor. There’s more to it than that.
Realtor View: How do you know if this house is ‘the one’?
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 12:00 am CDT, Sunday, May 19, 2019 Remember that house you couldn’t imagine yourself living in — the one where you told your agent a person would have to be crazy to buy a place with a kitchen that small? Someone just made a full-priced offer on it. Turns out the buyer is single and almost always eats out. Sure, that’s a hypothetical, but my point is that every buyer brings their own perspective and needs.

Realtor View: Get the greatest value out of home remodeling
By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 12:00 am CDT, Sunday, March 31, 2019 Whether you’ve lived in your home for two years or 20, there is bound to be something about it you would like to change. Maybe you want to update your master bathroom or perhaps you’ve been sketching a garage addition. Whatever your remodeling dreams may be, certain projects offer real-life payoffs when you decide to sell your home.

By Shannon Cobb Evans Published 12:00 am CST, Sunday, January 20, 2019 It’s possible that you are considering buying a home in the new year. And it’s possible that very thought is stressing you out. Real estate transactions are full of nuances, subtleties and loads of paperwork. Aside from that, every transaction is different because every single one involves the ultimate variable - people. Realtor View: Don’t buy into myths about home selling
By Shannon Cobb Evans, 2019 HAR Chair Published 12:00 am CST, Sunday, January 13, 2019 Your friends and family aren’t trying to steer you wrong when they give you selling advice, but they may be perpetuating myths about successful techniques to sell houses. Here are common seller misconceptions: Set your price too high to leave room for negotiation: Homeowners fall into this trap all the time. They aim high so they can “come down” on the price when a buyer wants to haggle.

How the Hunger Games is like SEO
Suzanne Collins’ "Hunger Games" is a pop culture phenomenon, with the trilogy taking us on a post-apocalyptic journey where "tributes" fight to the death and Katniss Everdeen dispels the Capitol. What does this have to do with SEO? More than you think. We hear "may the odds be ever in your favor" throughout the series, and it stands true for some SEO tactics. Implement them and hope Google’s odds are in your favor.
How Suffering Saved My Faith
I was 7 years old, in front of that big hymnal-holding Baptist congregation, when my father dunked me under the water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Dripping and shivering, I felt good. I remember how I stood a bit taller from my wet hair after church ended. I honestly can’t speak much on the theology that was taught in the Baptist church of my childhood. I was not exactly a fully present parishioner in my roughly two decades there.
Content Marketing Done Right
Just like in most things, there is the “right way” of doing content marketing, and there is the wrong way that will have you spending thousands of dollars, while getting you very little to no results at all. Of course, we want to make sure that you don’t experience the latter, right? Allow me to share with you some of the most critical points that you need to consider when using content marketing in order to get it right.

However, having a presence on Facebook and getting results from it are two different things.
