Juneteenth is traditionally celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. It recognizes the day in 1865 that the last Black American slaves learned of their freedom in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021. Raleigh Thursday, June 18th Wake County Libraries is hosting several programs commemorating Juneteenth this week. Two programs will be held Thursday. “K through 5th Adventures” will teach young kids about the holiday.

Durham to activate Stage 2 Water restrictions next week due to worsening drought conditions

The city of Durham has announced Stage 2 water restrictions will go into effect starting next Monday as drought conditions worsen. It comes as two of the city’s drinking water reservoir levels–Lake Michie and Little River Reservoir–have dropped. What you should know about Stage 2 Water Restrictions in Durham: No spray irrigation of landscapes with city water is allowed. No drip irrigation of landscapes. Car washing is limited to compliant commercial facilities.

NC's first Buc-ees to break ground this week in Mebane
