Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Univ. of Florida WRUF-AM/FM radio.
How is social media changing news?
Powerful corporate and political interests have learned how to co-opt social media to direct news narratives in an unnatural direction.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Depends on what kind of journalist. For news journalists, at least for me, it means seeking info & views others often don't want published.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I don't like to be pitched stories in general, I prefer to find stories that nobody is pitching.
Who do you wish followed you?
Nobody.
Why did you become a journalist?
I love to write and I love to figure out puzzles.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Be honest. Don't publish or automatically believe what you are told or what others report.
When's the best time to pitch you?
I don't accept blind pitches, sorry.
