AUSTIN, Texas — “Longhorn Chicks” and “Barstool Longhorn," social media accounts followed by thousands of students at the University of Texas at Austin, are warning their followers about Cychlorphine, a powerful synthetic opioid that federal officials have identified as an emerging threat. The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy said Cychlorphine has been found in the illicit drug supply sometimes mixed with other substances without the user knowing.

Austin centenarians ages 100 to 104 honored at Westminster senior living

When Martha Bombaugh was young, she said a doctor told her mother she would not live very long. More than a century later, she can laugh about that prediction. “The doctor told my mother I wouldn't live very long," Bombaugh said. "Here I am, 104." Bombaugh was among eight residents honored Tuesday at Westminster senior living in Austin for National Centenarian's Day. The resident's ages range from 100 to 104. The celebration put the centenarians front and center for an afternoon of music and dancing.

Skin cancer screenings help Central Texas firefighters catch warning signs early

ROUND ROCK, Texas — Firefighters gathered in Round Rock on Saturday for free skin cancer screenings aimed at catching cancer early and helping fire service personnel reduce risks associated with the job. The screenings were held during the International Women in Fire Conference through a partnership between the American Academy of Dermatology, Women in Fire and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network.
