After a historic year for area track and field, Tinora’s Logan Coy, Liberty Center’s Hunter Spangler, Napoleon’s Gwen Huddle and Patrick Henry’s Payton Boyer took home hardware in the 2026 Crescent-News track and field awards. More area athletes competed at the state track and field meet than ever before amidst the expansion to five divisions this season, and state championships were won while a plethora of others earned state medals.

Bryan softball’s historic 2026 season can add two more achievements to its lengthy list, as Bryan mother-daugher duo Hilary and Thea Staten were named the Crescent-News softball Coach and Player of the Year on Thursday. Star pitcher Thea Staten won the award thanks to taking a majority of the first place votes with nine to Ayersville senior and reigning player of the year Kendra Waldron’s three. Staten ended up with 100 points to Waldron’s 70.
